Operator Qualification (OQ) Program

An operator qualification (OQ) program defines all training tasks that are required for gas utility system operators. This ensures that the operators can safely and properly operate the system.

IAMU developed a model natural gas operator qualification program for Iowa. IAMU also administers the OQ Program for participating Iowa gas utilities.

A national industry-government small operator task force reviewed several model plans and concluded that the model plan developed by IAMU provides an excellent model that small operators can use as a model for their OQ compliance programs. IAMU’s plan is used as a model for the “OQ Guide for Small Distribution Systems” available from Transportation Safety Institute.
