Next Steps for Energy Efficiency Goals

eco@home
eco@home is a digest-sized quarterly publication designed to educate utility customers on energy efficiency and green topics.  It is a full color 12-page magazine that is full of natural resource saving ideas for homeowners and renters.  Easy-to-read, eco@home is designed to move readers to consume gas, electricity, and water more efficiently, saving dollars and our planet.  The piece can serve as the foundation of your consumer education program.  Subscribers can send this publication directly to residents and/or receive copies in the office for distribution.  Contact Sandy Longfellow for a sample copy and to answer any questions you might have.

Iowa Energizer Bulletin
Member utilities can hire IAMU to produce an energy efficiency brochure that can be mailed to their residential customers. Four times a year, an issue of the Iowa Energizer will be customized for each utility. Inside pages of each Iowa Energizer will carry up-to-date information on energy efficiency for residential applications.  Contact John Burnett at jburnett@iamu.org for more information.

Questline

Looking for good energy efficiency information for your key commercial and industrial electric and gas accounts?  For many utilities and joint action groups, the answer has been an eNewsletter called Questline.  The newsletter comes monthly or bi-monthly and can be customized with the sponsoring utility’s logo and sent directly to your key accounts from your utility.  It offers access to interactive energy calculators, an eLibrary of articles, and an “Ask an Expert” service.  IAMU has made favorable subscription arrangements for members.  If your utility is interested and the service is not already available through your joint action agency, call or email Joel Logan jlogan@iamu.org.

Energy Efficiency Marketing Materials

Specially printed folders for energy efficiency materials are now available for your utility to purchase from IAMU.  The folders are ideal for energy fairs, home energy audits, grade school visits, and any other events featuring contact between the utility and its customers.  Beginning in 2009, some customization of the folders, including options for utility logo placement, will be available.  Contact Sandy Longfellow for more information or to place an order.  See a sample of the folder here.

HomeFitness Program
This is a program for utilities that don't have residential energy audit programs of their own.  Choose from a list of professional energy auditors so that you can offer audits of your choice to residential customers.  IAMU can also develop marketing materials for your program.  To find out more about the program contact Joel Logan at jlogan@iamu.org  or 1-800-810-4268.

Inflatable Compact Fluorescent Light Bulb for Rent
Looking for a unique advertising approach?  Rent a 12’ high, cold-air inflatable compact fluorescent light bulb from IAMU: it will be sure to attract attention to your event.  IAMU will arrange for transportation to your utility complete with tethers, blower fan, weights, tarp, and instruction manual.  Currently used by several utilities and other organizations around the Midwest, the balloon is perfect for advertising utility or community events like Energy Fairs, Customer Appreciation days, or even local school district events.  Contact Lorrie Watson 515/289-1999 for more information.

Marathon Water Heaters Program
More than 30 utilities in Iowa have established successful water heater programs through Marathon Water Heaters.  Marathon staff can work directly with IAMU member utilities to help develop the customer programs, advertising materials, and marketing plan that are best for your utility. In the past, programs have included rebates, load control, water heater sales, financing, trade partnerships, maintenance/service, and leasing.  See specifics in our Members Only section (left side of homepage).

Energy Efficiency Plan Filing
IAMU can complete and file the following three types of energy efficiency compliance forms:

  • The NonRate-Regulated Energy Efficiency Plan filing to the Iowa Utilities Board. Due on July 1 of every even-numbered year.
  • The EIA-861 Schedule 6, "Demand-Side Management".
  • The annual Minimum Investment Report/Integrated Resource Plan due to the Western Area Power Administration. More information about IAMU’s form filing assistance services.

Green City Energy
IAMU program to assist members in complying with state mandated retail offerings of renewable energy. IAMU customizes marketing materials (pamphlets and bill stuffers) for the participating utilities’ alternate energy fund.

Biodiesel Updates
The IAMU biodiesel program aims to encourage the use of biodiesel in stationary generators by electric utility members. IAMU facilitated a series of biodiesel emissions tests in order to provide IDNR with information to allow utilities to use biodiesel without having to re-permit or do additional emissions testing.
