Iowa Stormwater Education Program (ISWEP)

IAMU Storm Water Communities: Did you know a valuable educational resource is available to assist you with storm water management information? The Iowa Storm Water Education Program exists in conjunction with the Iowa Stormwater Partnership. The program allows easy access to materials for cities and universities required to provide public education through their NPDES permit. The information can also be used by other groups that are involved with water quality education and protection.

The program provides technical information and educational materials designed to create a uniform message and reduce duplication of efforts. Each quarter materials are distributed during a meeting that provides the chance for member communities to discuss their storm water management issues and to review materials provided.

Each packet of materials distributed to member communities includes a resource toolbox that contains various materials dealing with a particular topic. These materials may include:

Newsletters; Brochures; Technical Resources; Articles; Presentations; Bill Stuffers; Video, DVD or CD; Magnets; Master copies of materials to distribute may be customized for individual communities.

Target audiences for resource information include:

Municipal staff from various departments; City Council; Planning & Zoning; Mayor; Other elected Officials; Industries; Developers; Homebuilders; Contractors; General Public.

Communities may also have the option of using the program’s website as their public education storm water site via a link for their community homepage.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources, through a 319 grant, provided IAMU with start-up funds for this program.
