Water Services Specialist

Iowa Association of Municipal Utilities (IAMU) is seeking a person to provide technical assistance and training to water supply systems.  This is a permanent, full-time position.

IAMU is a not-for-profit member organization representing water, gas, electric and telecom municipal utilities.  IAMU has over 500 water utility members.

IAMU Water Services Specialist position is primarily funded by a grant from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IDNR); IAMU works closely with the Water Supply Section of IDNR.   

IAMU currently has contract with IDNR for the Viability Technical Assistance Grant.  The purpose of this grant is to provide one-on-one, technical assistance to communities with populations less than 10,000 with the technical, managerial, and financial aspects of a water system.  Emphasis will be given to asset management, rate setting, and board/council training.

Working on the Viability Grant is the first priority of the Water Services Specialist, while some time will also be dedicated to additional workshops/projects the Water Services Department at IAMU is responsible for.

Strong communication and computer skills are a must. Experience with water utility operations and management or science/engineering background is preferred. In-state travel is required, some overnight.  Salary is dependent on qualifications.  Position is open until filled.

Comptroller

Atlantic Municipal Utilities offers this position. Directs, coordinates, and monitors the accounting and finance operations of the Utilities in accordance with Utility and regulatory guidelines and regulations.

Responsible for the development of accounting procedures necessary to ensure proper internal control, the development of cost of service statistics and appropriate rate schedules consistent with Board policy, and the timely preparation of financial reports. Responsible for all federal, state and county tax obligations and filing requirements and cash management and investment of all utility funds.

Comprehensive knowledge of Utility financial practices and procedures; proven management skills, particularly relating to financial activities; proven leadership abilities, ability to prepare sound recommendations based on factual data and good judgment is required.

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required. CPA is preferred with considerable work experience in the administration of accounting and budgetary systems. EOE. Pre-employment drug screen required.

Power System Planning Engineer

Responsible for analysis and planning for the impact of future system developments upon the Utility’s transmission and distribution system, as well as provide engineering support for ongoing T&D, water, technical services, generation, and telecommunications projects. Manager, Transmission and Distribution

This position directs and manages all activities related to the electrical transmission and distribution system including Engineering, T&D, Metering and Power Quality, and Technical Services. This person will direct the activities of the Chief Operations Engineer which includes preparation of work orders, the maintenance of system maps in GIS system, evaluation of new equipment and materials, and development and application of construction standards and techniques.  This individual will also maintain a strong relationship with residential, commercial, and industrial customers by providing reliable and outstanding customer service.   Incumbent will also be involved and work closely with electrical contractors and other vendors.  There are four direct reports and a total of 35 salaried and bargaining unit employees in this department. 

This person will participate in labor relations activities including contract negotiations and labor management meetings. This manager will be responsible for monitoring and controlling costs of inventory and for directing the work related to line maintenance and new construction needs while making sure that there are adequate materials on hand.  This individual will be involved in establishing service requirements for residential, commercial, and industrial customers as well as ensuring department compliance with the NERC Reliability Standards.  They will also ensure that all employees have had adequate safety training and attend regularly scheduled safety meetings.

Journey Level Lineworker URD

Milford Municipal Utilities offers this position. The Journey Lineperson is responsible for the construction and repair of a 15 KV electric system and equipment. Work is predominantly outdoors and in all weather conditions. This individual must be able to drive safely, work extended hours, and wear utility provided Personal Protective Equipment.

 

Responsibilities:

  •       Perform work at all times in a safe manner, obeying all of MMU’s safety rules, employee policies and The APPA Safety Manual.

  •       Take direction from person in charge and work safely as a team with other MMU employees.

  •       Use hand and power tools, work with live circuits, climb ladders, work in manholes and confined spaces.

  •       Locate, pull, remove, splice, terminate cables; install and replace equipment.

  •       Load, unload, lay out, prep tools, supplies, equipment, materials needed at each job site.

  •       Review and execute work orders and verbal assignments.

  •       Operate hydraulic and aerial equipment.

  •       Communicate in person, by phone and by radio with supervisor, co-workers, and the public. Must  work in a team environment participating in tailboards throughout the day.

  •       Provide on-the-job training to apprentice lineworker.

  •       Attend all mandated OSHA and utility training.

Qualifications:

  •       Must be at least 18 years of age.

  •       Must possess a high school diploma or GED.

  •       Must possess a valid Iowa CDL.

  •       Ability to work in all types of weather extremes.

  •       Ability to work extended hours, nights, weekends and holidays.

  •       Must be able to wear company provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  •       Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds a minimum of one time a day.

  •       Must pass Lineman Assessment prior to offer.

  •       Completion of recognized formal lineworker apprenticeship with DOL #

Superintendent/Plant Manager

The Coggon Municipal Light Plant is now accepting resumes for this full-time position. Base salary is open and undecided at this time and will depend on experience and expertise. Benefit package will be offered.  Persons applying must be experienced in underground and overhead line work, new construction of lines. Other duties include, but are not limited to: Line inspection, meter reading, tree trimming, locates, meter change-outs, customer service, working with aerial lift and pole truck. Knowledge of diesel generation for maintenance and operation is needed, and experience with switch gear, substation work, and boilers. 

All persons interested in the position must be located within the City of Coggon’s electric operating area, but negotiable. Person hired will be on-call for emergency situations. Applicant must be a high school graduate or have a GED equivalent. Must have attended line school or have experience in line work. Generation experience a plus, as well as knowledge needed to perform plant maintenance. Pre-employment drug testing and physical is required. Applicants must have a Class B CDL with trailer endorsement.
